One of the earliest oil paintings left on the canvas is Madonna,France, with an angel, circa1410, in the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin. Its use in the birth of St. George and the Dragon [4] by Paolo Uccello around 1470 and the Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli in the 1480s was still rare at the time.
